Forgotten Voices, Living History – International Conference for Educators on the WWII History in Asia
B.C. ALPHA (Association for Learning & Preserving the
History of WWII in Asia) invites educators from BC to participate in the
“Forgotten Voices,
Living History – International Conference for Educators on the WWII History
in Asia”
organized by Toronto ALPHA to be held from October 1 – 3, 2010 at Ontario
Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of University of Toronto.
The conference is co-sponsored by Toronto School Board and other Ontario
school boards together with some universities and academic organizations.
500 educators are expected to attend this conference. Besides academic
presentations by researchers and scholars from Canada, US, China, Korea and
Japan, survivors of the atrocities committed during WWII in Asia will also
share their stories in the conference. The
Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson (former
Governor General of Canada) will deliver the keynote speech on
“Inclusive Curriculum”, and
Canadian writer, Joy Kogawa
will make concluding remarks on “Justice
and Closure: Forgiveness and Reconciliation”.

BC ALPHA has decided to sponsor some educators from BC to attend this
conference in the form of financial subsidy of not more than $1000.
Those who are interested in attending the conference and in need of
financial assistance may apply for the subsidy. Applicants will need to
attend an interview in person or by SKYPE (for those located outside the
Lower Mainland). Successful applicants will be expected to attend a
pre-conference meeting on September 25, 2010 (Saturday) from 2 – 5 pm.
